The Ultimate Weapon
‘Why?’ Do you ask?
Why write about something this dastardly? ; While billions and millions of dollars are already being spent by many countries (even those without the excess to afford) to research just such a thing.
The answer is quite simple. To put a perspective on it. To imagine what all that money and resources COULD do.
From Wiki again:‘A weapon is a tool used to apply or threaten to apply force for the purpose of hunting, attack, self-defense, or defense in combat.’
In essence a tool. A means to an end. A tool to solve a problem by force rather than settling for a mutual compromise.
It is not very hard to imagine the ultimate weapon to be a fusion bomb with the biggest bang or a singularity laser that can cut through all defenses.
But let us look at the goal we want to achieve with a weapon in an abstract sense, instead of throwing ever-bigger rocks at each other.
The goal, my friends, is to eliminate whatever the differences, whatever the point of friction between the two opponents.
Ultimately to impose one’s set of views onto another.
A simple way to do this would be to make the person WANT to view the world through your own eyes.
To assimilate them as one of your own would be tantamount to winning.
‘But how?’ you ask?
Well, there are many ways to do this. But the most humane and sensible way to do this is to set an example of a lifestyle that would dwarf your enemy’s by any leap of imagination.
Consider this, if we see a community, living with absolute peace and harmony.
- Having great values for the group as much as for the individual
- Led by people with the best interests of the people in general
- Rich in quality and quantity
- Plentiful in supply and demand.
- Self contained
- Further in scientific research than anyone
A shining beacon drawing all that gaze upon it to want to be a part of it.
Wouldn’t you want to be a part of that community?
Wouldn’t you mould your views based on the successes of that community or person?
In this way, a person or a group of people can defeat their opponent by simply out doing them in every way conceivable.
When the opponent fails to see the need to disagree with you, you win.
Though it might sound like ideological bull. I believe this can be achieved to a certain extent even at an individualistic level with the proper decision making.
A far greater good may be achieved if all those countries researching warfare decided to dedicate their resources to the development of their own existing infrastructure systems.
Democracy is as old as ancient Greece, communism has mostly failed in its various incarnations and given way to capitalism.
Speaking of capitalism, our modern economic policies are at least a good 50 years old and our moral value harkens back to religious books (Not necessarily a bad thing, but outdated in most cases).
If funding was diverted to identifying modern models for the way in which we live our lives. That will be the first step to utopia.
It is only a matter of time and money before a cure for cancer is found.
A matter of time before someone works out a good governmental system that would operate transparently and would be closer to its people etc.
I know that work is being done on these things now, but in very trivial amounts when compared to any given government’s military spending.
Thus, I bring us back to the description of the ultimate weapon.
It must not destroy, but it must create.
It must not distance, but benignly integrate the offending body.
It must be an absolute driving force in making people see the need to conglomerate, looking past petty trivialities like color, race, religion and monetary wealth.
It could be an economic victory, a political victory or even a scientific victory.
Just try showing a cure for cancer or AIDS to your foe and see them humbled by it.
See them want to be on your side for the greater good.
At least at the end of your conflict, you would have two more hands working for you.
Thank you, To Alpha Centauri.
